Résumé
Charles Graves provides, in this book, an invaluable guide to all pipe smokers; whether they have just bought their firt pipe and are discovering for themselves the pleasures that pipe smoking can give, or are already veterans with a score or more pipes in their possession. He also gives a fascinating account of the early history of tobacco (originally imported purely for medicinal purposes), and of its introduction into Europe in the sixteenth century. The rapid adoption of pipe smoking among all classes led, in earlier days, to some bizarre and exotic experiments in the craft ok pipe making ; and the author shows that it is only in recent years that modern science has contributed towards giving today's pipe smoker the really satisfying luxury of pipe smoking at its best.
